I'm not a big glider fan myself, but I've got another friend on the field who tells me if I ever do go I will enjoy it.

I have friends that do it and I may one day for the experience. I guess I have this particular opinion because "our" glider peeps sometimes don't play well with the power peeps often causing scary moments and harsh words.

You should still give it a chance. First, it's still a new type of aircraft and flying to experience, which is irrespective of any social ill will.

Second, gliders have obvious limitations that change the framework they have to work within, and it could be an eye opening experience to see it from their eyes. Perhaps you'll find out that they have no choice about some of the things they do, and could then act as an ambassador between the glider and power communities at your airport and help everyone work together better.

Or they could just be assholes, and then you'd know for sure

We (and I) are very aware of the limitations and do make all the allowances called for; sometimes go over and above to give them the "space" to operate safely. Let's just say this doesn't work both ways at our little airport.

Enuf of this, I think gliders wonderfully graceful and enable power pilots to learn power management skills that are invaluable and their pilots are great; my experience elsewhere has been fine........just not here. But I will stop my rant; it's counter-productive and I should have left well enough alone
