F-86

Sun Apr 17, 2005 7:49 pm

I found this photo in my box of suprises the other day and was wondering if anyone knew were this F-86(H?) ended up? It was here at BIA about 1990/1991 towing targets for the VTANG when the kept an alert detatchment here. I I read it right, on the nose it says "Flight Systems Inc." It's not the best shot as the Security Police were on there way  and I didn't want to hang around and shoot the breeze with them  . Also the hangers in the picture were torn down last summer. They were the original base alert hangers from the 1950s.

Hello Don,

I believe if you scroll down the page to a post entitled "Some Photos From Tico" you may find the answer.

That F-86 along with a few others, an F-100 and some Canadair T-33's, were still being used by Tracor Flight Systems at Mojave Airport, Ca, where F-4 Phantom II's were being converted into drones. I went there each year for a few years in the late 1990's while those planes were still there. Due to security (?), the field is no longer open for tours.........

Wow!!

Does anyone know the disposition of the Hun?? I wonder if it is the same one now for sale in New Mexico.

I've tried for a couple of years to get it to come to our air show as a static display.

Four ex-FS birds are registrered in Montana, and one FS aircraft is still USAF owned. Yanks also recently acquired a semi-airworthy F-100 from Mojave which is being disassembled and trucked to Chino.

One each are also registered in Reno NV, Lodi CA, Ft. Wayne IN, and El Paso TX. 10 in all.

BDK -

Thanks! do you know anything about the Reno plane? That would be a heck of a lot closer to Wendover. Maybe someone here knows the owner/pilot??

Thanks,
