When I was at Al Taqaddum in Iraq in 2003, there were a bunch of derelict aircraft laying around.

I wound up with a MiG-29 access panel and what I think is an an oil temperature gauge from a TU-22 Blinder (had to wiggle my way inside and get it with a leatherman).

Not sure what happened to the MiG-29, but the Blinder was destroyed a short time later.

Technically not a "piece" of a warbird but I kinda like the 20 mm cannon shell my dad gave me from an F-89C.

The only thing I have is a great memory of being up in the B-17 and remembering the promise I made to my late father in law that we would go for a warbird ride after he beat his cancer. I kept my end of the deal, unfortunately he did not.

I got to see/go through the Museum Of Flight's B-17F and B-29 yesterday and lets just say I could've started a little collection of B-29 pieces. It was an amazing experience and once I get to sort through my pictures i'll post them in the hangar. Stay tuned!

…in Gary Austin’s spirit…not too much...but proud, yah know?

A rather significant piece of cowl flap from a crashed C-54 (won’t tell the location, but NPS). It came to me from a friend who asked me one day if I was interested in airplanes. He “found” it on a (multi-day) hike and thought I might like it. I thought it would be some fragment, but it’s about 1/5 of the dang thing.

An NOS alarm bell (561-3) for B17’s (and…?)

A wing nut from the Captain’s bridge of CV-11 USS Intrepid (a gift from a friend)

2 presentation models from Grumman: F6F & F7F

De-milled 20mm shell

Piece of B17-E 41-9032 “My Gal Sal”

Assorted pins, etc. from WWII

I have part of a V2 rocket motor and also some parts off of the Loch Ness Wellington at Brooklands (they were giving away scrap parts for donations).

I am missing the left side pane for the pilot, the middle and right panes are intact.

I was going to make this into the top half of a living room bay window for my house, but with a new girlfriend I dunno if I have the guts.

I will see if I can use it on the barn.

I think I will just hang onto it for the time being, though if anyone has a burning desire to own it, PM me.

Gary, it looks like you are over half way done with your Airstream project. How wide is it?

Unfortunately, it is right at 11 feet wide....too wide to make a trailer out of it at it's current "girth." A person would have to do some serious cuttin' and trimmin' to make it legal width for a trailer.

Gary, you win with all your cool "stuff". But I think that C-97 nose is just too cool. Would make a cool living room for a house! :D
