The repairs to the Yellow Rose are taking a little longer than planned, due to the time it's taking to get parts replicated. Due to this, we have had to cancel going to the Doolittle reunion in SC. Things are still looking good for making Fun N Sun though. The left engine has been hung and hooked up, the new aux tank is in and being plumbed as I type this. The wing is all drilled and rivets are in up to the point that we need the new rib between the oil coolers to go in before we can do any more. Hopefully that rib will arrive tomorrow. Then just one more part that's being made.
That one is something aft of the bomb bay that was just discovered a few days ago. Sorry I don't have better info on it to pass along. But that should be the last part. The "B" inspection is almost complete, and just a little riveting and putting the left wing back on.

Thanks for the update. I'm sure everyone here understands. It is best to be safe and do it right. Short cuts can be very bad! Doing it right takes time and $$'s. Thanks again for the tour you gave us when we "buzzed" through in Dec. I am still working on the P-39 illustration.....just been too busy doing things that pay the bills to get it done!

There's a Yellow Rose in Texas
I've heard her engines roar
She's winging through the blue skies
I love to watch her soar
She's a twin tailed Mitchell beauty
A sweet one that's for sure
She's the Yellow Rose from Texas
Just who could ask for more!

Good one Holedigger, and that is coming from someone who could go into a karaoke club and get paid not to sing.

That's great, Chris! I think we'll have to make that our official squadron song!

Mike,
I know that I don't need to tell you guys to slow down, and do the job the right way the first time. There is something about a mass of parts flying in formation, and the one Rut Ro!! that can bring it all out of the sky. Work by the book, fly by the book, maintenance by the book. We are all proud of the job you guys are doing, and would much rather see Rose as a complete airframe on the ramp or in the air, than as smoldering pile of junk in a field. We have time, well, maybe if I'm lucky, no hurry, just do it Right Man, do it right.
I'm Done....Beacon Outbound!

Very clever!

Looking forward to her slipping the surley bonds once more...

Just keep me away from the Karaoke machine (or bring me more beer!)!

She's a flying tribute to those folks
who flew her kind before
She's hated by the Axis
'cause she knocked them to the floor
From carrier decks and desert sands
she took her brave crews out
So put your hands together
And give a mighty shout!

When she thunders low, down past the crowd
Just hear her Cyclones Growl
The thunder of her passing
Sets up a sing-song howl
She's sweet to fly, a hot-rod
Old Billy's wildest dream
She's the Yellow Rose in Texas
The sweetest bird you've seen,
She's the Yellow Rose in Texas
The sweetest bird you've seen!

Chris,
That is FANTASTIC!!! Soon to be heard in O'club bars across the country!

Gary,
Not to worry, we feel the same about the Rose (and all the other warbirds) as you do! We are doing the job right the first time, since if we don't, there might not be a time to do it over! We have missed several appearances already this year, and hope to make Fun N Sun, but if we don't, we don't. There will always be next year, if we take time to do it right this year. I can say that the work has all been done to standards that will make Gary Austin proud!

Good news Mike. You got any photos of the work on the rib?
