SFC Milton C Hawkins passed away 4/12/2009. Pearl Harbor Survivor and
27 missions into Germany in B-17's.
Dad went peacefully Sunday morning. Certainly gonna miss him.
Mom found a pocket note book in his lock box. It was a personal diary of his missions with the 331'st Sqd 94th bomb group 8th Air Force. Also lists last three digits of tail number of aircraft. If you wish I'll transcibe them on the Military Thread.

Greg Hawkins

"We left as boys and came back as men. Lets hope no one has to do it again.

We took a plane brand spanking new, started as strangers and came back a crew.

We were young and slim, our backs were straight. Our eyes now dim, we know our fate.

We had to go, a job to do. Our friends all went, we had to too.

Now years have passed and soon we'll rest. The whole world knows we did our best.

Above the clouds our spirits will soar. When life is over, its through the next door.

We'll join up again on another plane, take off for the heavens, a crew again" anonymous

No need to send it over to the Military Thread. Post 'em here where everybody will read them!
We're sorry to hear of your loss.
