New Props for CWH Lancaster

Sun Apr 26, 2009 4:14 pm

Due to the generosity of many supporters (including several from WIX) who answered our plea for financial assistance, Canadian Warplane Heritage was able to buy two propellers (six blades) from an aircraft parts dealer in Florida. The props arrived this week, still in their original World War II boxes (see photo below). Additional propellers were also procured from Greenwood Military Aviation Museum in Nova Scotia. These blades will goto Hope Aviation in Toronto for overhaul. The Lancaster is expected to be back in the air in May!

Those are so nice to see. Can’t wait to see the Lancaster back in the air where she belongs.

Thinking of performance, does it make any difference which engines get the new blades and which the overhauled?

No, because the overhaul checks to make sure the blades are free of corrosion, and that the profile and contours are correct, and the blades are in balance, so a overhauled blade should perform as well as a new one.
