Hi guys,

Just wanted to introduce myself ... I'm an aviation artist constantly on the look out for good reference material and information. Looks like this is a good place to visit regularly! My friend Randy Haskin mentioned this site to me a while back and I finally found it after seeing a link on MustangsMustangs.com.

At the moment, I'm "commissioned up" for at least the next year with four major canvases to do; my two current projects (shown in mock up form below) being "Mustangs at Dawn" (P-51Ds) and "Salem Rep" (working title).

OK, between Hyperscale, ARC, MM.com and this place, I have finallydecided to give up painting altogether and spend all my time surfing ... (don't we all wish we could?!) :spit2

Welcome to the WIX, Wade!

I'm a big fan of your work. I'd probably have quite a bit of your stuff hanging on the wall--if it weren't for mortgage, tuitions, and the neglected project in the workshop!

Ahh, it's so nice to be among fellow OCD, one-dimensional, super-freak warbird aviation enthusiasts ... for lack of a better way to describe our "type".

Thanks for the good words. I'm currently working on the pencil background study for "Mustangs at Dawn". It's actually the most fun part of the entire creative process for me since I'm "playing" with cloud/shadow shapes and values (color will come later with the oil study). As I work with the basic cloud shapes, usually based on a photo or photos I took from an airliner window, it's fun to see what happens as I lay on graphite and erase here and there. Much of the "effect" is the result of further exploiting chance values and shapes. I'll post an image here when I'm done soon.

Cheers!

Wade

Hi Wade and welcome to WIX!

You do gorgeous work. Good to have another brush-wielder on the forum (even if he's that much better at it than I am... :D) Look forward to seeing lots more from you. Particularly neat to see the working drawings.

By coincidence, CAAA (the Canadian cousin of ASAA) is opening a showing at the Toronto Aerospace Museum on Saturday evening; I and hopefully several other CAAA members will be on hand. The CAAA conference is in Ottawa in a couple weeks, too...so your post is timely as well as inspiring. Puts me in the proper frame of mind!

Cheers
