Baffeled over Nomenclature of a B-25

wth is a Mark III and what were the changes in equipment etc that would change said designation from a TB-25 (Trainer Bomber) to a whatever a Mark III is. I know there is a Mitchell Wizard in here, and has the answer, I;d love to read it. Thanks in Advance

Could this be the answer to the question, maybe a British Thought...

The British designated the B-25Bs as the Mitchell I, the B-25C and B-25Ds as the Mitchell II, and their B-25Js, with 12 heavy machine guns, as the Mitchell III

Being a Mitchell III, the slang would be a Mark III - type B-25J if you were a Brit or Canuck

Any Brits or Canucks to add to this explanation?

The USAAF B-25J was named the Mitchell MkIII in RAF/RCAF service.
The B-25B was the Mitchell MkI, and B-25C was the Mitchell MkII.

Here are the cover pages from the flight manuals for the B-25C and B-25D (Mitchell II) and the B-25J (Mitchell III) which also had Navy/Marine designations of PBJ-1.

I think that Dave and PB pretty well covered the fact that these were all designations for the same aircraft that were adjusted to meet the using agency's unique aircraft indentification systems.

N62163 flew with the RCAF as 5239 and was technically a Mitchell 3. By the 50s the RCAF no longer used roman numerals. Sadly this is often missed in many published and internet sources, so I assume that is why it is listed as Mitchell III.
