LSFM's PB4Y pictures

Someone had asked me (in the Sun N Fun post) to take pictures of the PB4Y while I was at the LSFM show. So here they are:

Hi Chuck:

Very nice pictures! The PB4Y-2 is not very famous compared w/ the B-17, but they sure did a lot of damage to the Japanese during 1944-45.

I'm glad to see it coming along so well. It will be a real addition to the warbird scene.
I admire LSFM for finding the turrets..that had to have been hard.

GREAT!! do you know what paint she will wear??

I look at those two Privateers H&P has for sale with Courtesy and just grumble for the lack of funds. Those would be perfect additions to FLYING community!

It looks like LSFM has rebuilt her almost perfectly - still looks like it has the "Super Privateer" cockpit configuration and if you were to get really picky the B-25 engines (but thats going too far)

I have a photo taken around 93 of an airframe laying outside

EXCELLENT photo's Sir. Looks like they are very close to completion on the project. Did anyone there give you any thoughts as to when it will be complete ? And perhaps, when her return to the skies may occur ?

I saw a Privateer at the Yankee Airforce's airshow last fall when they did Thunder Over Michigan. The plane look ostensibly complete and would be a good basis for a restoration should they decide to do so.The H&P birds that are for sale also are good candidates. But those look tired.

Anyhow...excellent photo's again Sir.

Lone Star's PB4Y last flew as a tanker with T&G out of Chandler, Arizona.

How closely related are the PB4Y and the B-24? At first glance, the PB4Y looks like a B-24 with a single tail. The turret installations (including those very unusual Erco side turrets) are clearly different from the B-24. What are the other differences?

From what I've read the PB4Y has a longer tail, different turrets, and that's it.

The exact figure escapes me at the moment, but the PB4Y has a signifigantly longer forward fuselage than the B-24.

What are the 2 inner blue blister on the second pic ?

Are those the inside of the rear blisters ?

What are those & what are they used for.

Hi Michel:

An interesting thing to note is that the PBY and PB4Y, both built by Consolidated, have the same type of side gun blisters.

To my knowledge the Erco 250TH was never installed on the PBY (Always happy to be proven wrong, though! :wink:

).
