Keesler AFB, New Orleans Museums and Warbirds Found

Hey there fellow warbird junkies.

I am stuck in Biloxi, Ms for Flight Sim week, and was curious if there were any aircraft / museums around the area to see. I noticed when I landed at Gulfport, that there was actually an airport, ( last time i was here was the after katrina, then rita, and then 1 month after for my last flight sim qualifications ), There was a Convair 240 and an F-4 that looked derelict on the airfield. Anyone have info on them?

The Battleship Alabama museum isn't bad, and is about 70 miles from Biloxi, and the naval aviation museum in Pensacola is 120 miles if you have more than average spare time.

Don't know about any museums but there was the "Flamingo Lounge" that was kind of a "shrine" for me and my followers when I was at Keesler in 1956. :shock:

An amazingly strange happening started at the Flamingo....which I will only tell you about if you ask.

go to the french quarter in new orleans (nawleans) gorge on sea food, get schnockered on hurricane drinks, & enjoy the naked ladies!!! hour & a 1/2 drive from biloxi. that was the 2nd time in my life that i went on the wagon after a vacation.

National WWII Museum is in New Orleans (approx. 80 miles west).
It's the former D-Day Museum and well worth the visit.

I did see loads of static displays i will photograph for the registry here on base!

I think the D-Day Museum will be the winner tomorrow.

Still want to know where the birds' are:)

WOW!!! If that is the same F-4, it's been there since the mid-80's. Shortly before I attended tech school at Keelser, two F-4 were involved in a landing accident where one of them tried to land on top of the other one. One of them diverted and landed at the Gulfport airport and the other one made it down at Keesler. The one at Keesler sat there for a long time and we marched past it every day on the way to class. I think it was still there when I was sent back to Keesler as an instructor.

and of course the nice yellow/brown water of Biloxi!

Invader has some bad damage from the hurricane, the salt water has almost eaten a hole in the roof, someone in the louisiana sector needs to help her with some new skin.
The water lever was suppossively extremely high at the barracks, they were badly damaged.
