We will find out in a few months - still not together yet

Was involved in a complete lower tank surface reskining. Sealed with the avgas version of FMS-1044 tank sealant. It's a messy and time consuming job, but won't leak afterwards. We did both dry air and wet checks after sealing. It took touching up in a few locations on tops skin penetrations, but if I remember correctly, it held wet pressure for a number of days before we drained it and started to reassemble the aircraft. It's been a couple of years, but when they are ready to fly it, there shouldn't be any leakage at all.

When you take a close at a BT's primary structure it almost makes a Stearman look underbuilt!

Here's a link to the guy doing aerobatics in the BT-13:

Is there either a mod or an STC (whatever applies) that allows you to install fuel tank, instead of having a wet wing?

Thanks.

I don't think there is Tulio. From what I remember, you would have to divide a tank into three or four sections and interconnect them somehow to get past the internal ribs for the wet wing. It's not a hard job to reseal a center section, just time consuming. The one I was involved in took more time to remove all the zinc chromate paste that was the original sealing material than anything else.

If you do deskin one, unless you build a hard jig, only do one side at a time to maintain the alignment.

Hi Jeff,

Yep - "almost"! :D Can an N3N have it's horsepower tripled and it's gross weight doubled while having part of it's primary structure cut away, or does it just hide in a dark corner of the hangar and sob "I wish I was a Stearman. I wish I was a Stearman..."? :D

How's your project coming along?

Now THAT'S a cool airplane! I wish I had pictures of mine when they were still dusters. I haven't had time to get mine going yet this year either but she's already got three local fly-ins on the calendar for next month so I'll be getting at it soon.

If anybody out there trips over a picture of either N5194N/C-GVTI or N9198R/C-GZAL in the meantime though I'd sure appreciate hearing about it.

Last I knew, N44758 was still forsale with the 1340, a group had taken it apart and did some work to it.

If anyone wants a N3N project, let me know......a SWEET one has just come up forsale..............A/C is in TN.

Mark, how did you apply it? I have a tank to seal in an armored personnel carrier for a buddy. Did you spray it in? What did you spray it with if so?

Thanks,
