Where is this “Dam” location?

Mon May 25, 2009 11:05 pm

Friends

Does anyone know where this dam is located, probably somewhere in the Southeast?

Both photos look like they are from a Observation/Tactical Reconnaissance squadron in training with the Third Air Force in the U.S with did this training in the Southeast.

The first photo, USAAF photo 23955AC, with a bit of “dark room magic” for a perfectly frame F-3 39-748. Just think what timing it would take to get a shot like this, let alone to know the serial number.

This one is of a recon P-43 with a P-40 over to me looks like the same dam, leads me to believe that both photos are from a Tactical Reconnaissance squadron that is transitioning from suicidal lumbering O-47s to fighter types for their mission.

And a nice shot of the P-43 showing of how the cameras were installed around the turbo supercharger.

That shot with the A-20 appears to be a composite. The sunlight is hitting the plane and the trees from different angles.

Fantastic shot of the P-43! I wish one of those had been preserved.
