... If you were given the task of writing and producing a movie about a period in history concerning warbirds. Any history at anytime using CURRENTLY FLYING WARBIRDS!!!!! ... I had to use caps because some of you kooks stray too far away from the actual question .... lolol

1. If you could dip into what WARBIRDS ARE CURRENLY FLYING!!!
2. Owners and money are NOT the issue.
3. NO!!! you CAN'T take warbirds out of museums or collections that are NOT in airworthy condition.
4. Yes you can change paint schemes.
5. No you can't modify or alter what condition the warbirds are in. ... i.e. change a B-17G to a B-17E.

What do you think there is out there to create your movie?

Disclaimer: this is mean't to be a fun thread, don't take it too seriously, just like all my threads ... In other words have some fun. Maybe our new 10 year old member will chime in and teach some of us how to have some harmless fun ....

How about this: a story centered around an A-26 and the various pilots and crews involved with it over the decades, from WWII on to Korea and then on to either Vietnam, executive conversion or firefighting, and back to restoration and flying as a warbird - like the old movie The Yellow Rolls-Royce.

MY IDEA!!! .... I would put together a convincing movie about a B-25 group in the SW Pacific. There's several B-25's that would work. I would maybe add a P-40 group in the mix as well. Maybe an airstrip somewhere in the pacific and do a story on some of the groups in PNG? ... I'd like to see some convincing footage of B-25's bombing and strafing shipping and airfields in the SWP .... Paint & weather the B-25's & P-40's and film scenes of low level missions over palm tree infested islands ... Shouldn't be too difficult to do ...

there are 3 books that would be neat to see done into movies and there are flyable versions of all the types,

Martin Caiden, about a JU-52 that was found on a strip in S. America, and used to blackmail the world into peace,

Grey Eagles, about a group of Luftwaffe pilots flying restored Me-109s and attacking Chino and Williams AFB, and the Confederate Air Force

I can't remember the title, but there was a guy who had a fully restored and armed P-38 that he uses to attack Air Force 1.

Shoot! I was gonna suggest a Captains of the Clouds remake, but I guess you'd need at least one airworthy Fairey Battle and a dozen Lockheed Hudsons (or just one copied via CG)
At least you could have a real Bf109 instead of the 'Messurcane'

Or what about if the Barksdale B-24J was potentially restored?

I read that book and think there were a couple of sequels I read as well. Unfortunately it sounds like a recipe for a disasterous movie- too much like Iron Eagle I, II, III & IV to be done well.

Of course I get excited about any aviation move and get sorely disappointed in the end...

"Serenade to the Big Bird" by Bert Stiles. Pull together the B17s that are flying. Get them to England, see if Basingbourne is available. Paint them in 91st BG markings and try and put that story on film.

I guess I'd need the new build 190s and the flying 109s along with a mix of B/C and D Mustangs, Jugs and 38s to fly escort. And if I'm really stretching it, I remember a part where they see a B24 limping along with a couple of escorts down low, so I'd need the Collings B24 too

How's that sound? Great book that I think could be a great movie.

Hmm.... a tough one this, but I'll stick with the idea I had in the original thread: an adaptation of War Pilot of Orange by Bob van der Stok.

I reckon a Harvard splashed in RNethAF colours would pass (for most!) as a Dutch "fighter" (since I can't alter them to look like Fokker D.XXIs! ).

I can see the setpieces in my head right now. It would rock...
