B-17 Chuckie

Just got word via email that the B-17 Chuckie flew again either today or yesterday (not sure on that).

"Chuckie" got AIRBORNE ???

This is news and a half. I thought this B-17 hadn't flown in years. Let's hear more to the story.

I heard a rumor on the PoF board that Chuckie was going to be flying again.
That is great news, I Can't wait to he Chuckie fly again.

According to the Vintage Flying Museum discussion group, Chuckie took off at 1600 on May 1st and returned at about 1700 after airwork and touch and goes.

Not sure what the plans for her will be at this point... lets hope she can make it for Thunder Over Michigan!

Did we already know that this one one of the 7?

"We already have plans to make the Denton Air Show then "Chuckie" is scheduled to fly to Detroit for a big show that will include several other B-17's" Plans are in the works to take her to Midland and possibly Houston in October if all goes well. "

I don't think Chuckie was on the counter for Thunder of MI, so it could make 8!

Great to hear ! I can remember being at Breckinridge airshow in the 80's and standing right beside the runway and I do mean right beside it when she took off and the right wing went right over our heads. we all decided that was the dumbest thing we have ever done ! what if an engine had failed etc. etc. etc. But all the same it was COOL !!!

Great to hear "Chuckie" is back in the air. We did quite a few air shows with them in my other life back in the old B-23 days. The Hospers are nice folks. Good for them!

Great News,

I read the link with the note about the "Detroit" show. In my opinion Chuckie has been ground bound too long. But, I do understand that maintaining these warbirds has a VERY signifigant dollar value. I am very happy to see another Warbird returned to the air.

A friend of mine has some very small ones up on his web site. Tried to copy and paste but his site wont let me.

Go to www.aerovents.com - click enter - click on the Texas map - there is one on the right side of the screen. Sorry.... not much but yes... she flies. I have heard that Chuckie is scheduled to be at the Denton, Texas airshow this weekend.

Chuckie is a B-17 that might have combat history....although it's never been verified. It's interesting.
