As for the Hurricane, no one including Bill (I am positive) would have ever wished the whole thing to have happened, not just to his plane but to any other plane, but the situation has been explained ad naseum, and now it is very much time to move on....

OK, so this person is in an elevated status for being a moderator, and posts in red.

Sounds like a class rating (he/she is better than anyone else on the WIX site)....does not make any sense. Unlike another high ranking government official, I respectfully do not bow to any individual that is not an American citizen ! I am especially dissmissive of a non American blasting Bill for expressing his political views. There are 20+ other sites that seem to get along just fine, because they are smart enough to create a forum on the site that if you enter it, you get a warning that political views are being expressed on that particular forum location, and if you don't want to engage in a lively, spirated debate...then don't enter it, and go over to another part of the site.....sounds like Bill may have been unfairly booted.

In regards to the banning, I think its pretty lame. While I haven't read every single one of my father's posts here, from what I understand, it was his arguing about politics that got him banned. From what I can tell, he didn't ever insult people or make anything personal, he just argued about politics a bit too much. I know the moderators here have the right to ban anyone from their site, but it seems pretty lame to me.

Mod post: I'm sorry to have to say that 'arguing a bit much about politics' isn't where it stopped sadly, whatever people wish to believe, or how much against character it seems.

None of the moderators can ban anyone.

ONLY Scott can ban anyone, and it's only Scott's decision.

As a moderator, it seems to me that Scott is usually very generous in giving transgressors of the agreed rules a chance. It seems to me his main interest is keeping the site running - which is what we all should want, not to develop a personality cult around an ex-member.

Please don't hammer the moderators for you not liking the rules we all signed up to. Anyone who feels strongly about it is welcome to set up another website, or post on other sites about it. It's a free web. If anyone doesn't like the efforts of any moderator, feel free to take it up with Scott, if the mod in question isn't seeing it your way.

I post in 'dark red' (it's what it's called) and with the heading 'mod post' when posting as a moderator, trying to enforce the site's rules, rather than my own opinion. It's got nothing to do with 'down under' or anywhere else. Why try and make it us and them? I'm here for the warbird discussion, as we all should be, not to heard cats.

The matter isn't for discussion. Further posts attempting to debate the matter will either be deleted or the thread locked, which would be a pity. Stick to the Spitfire.

Thank you.

Jlittle posted his views while I was trying to answer the previous comments.

I think dragging nationality into the matter, attempting to condemn a moderator as some kind of government official is, frankly, low. It is also, in my opinion, interesting to attack someone as trying to be superior and then to pull the same stunt as an American. For the record, I don't care where you're from, it's how we behave that counts.

We don't get any money, little praise and some thanks as well as a good deal of insults for doing this job.

We are volunteers - and our 'elevated status' is entirely in the ability to try and manage disputes.

I've tried hard to enforce the forum rules for the benefit of everyone. I've tried to make when I'm enforcing these rules clear by posting in red - apparently this is an issue.

OK, carry on. I'm done with this abuse. I've got better things to do, and if you are here to talk warbirds you should be too.

The threads open, off you go. I'm hanging up my moderator's role.

I'm extremely disappointed that what has the potential to be a great website with lots of discussion is continually poisoned by the actions of a few selfish individuals.

I'm off to walk the dog.

Hmmmm.......I seem to be having DejaVu. It took longer than I thought it would for this thread, but this is pretty much how it seemed that most threads ended up when discussing this topic. Darn shame, but it is what it is.

It really is a dam shame that most threads on this site have to head down this road.

As for the red text, it was suggested back in Dec. 08 when WIX was a hornets nest that the Mods use a different colour text as a visual to let Wixers know when the limits of the rules were being pushed. I thought it was a good idea myself, to help keep threads on subject.

James I for one am sorry that you want to leave as mod but hope you do stay on as a member, your knowledge of warbirds and history is a asset to Wixs

A real shame it has to come to this over and over again :(

Cheers Dave C

Not to start or rather than continue a fight, if you want to go and talk about politics, that is fine, go find a politics forum. This is a warbird forum. We talk about warbirds here. I like Bill very much, and look forward to seeing him at Oshkosh, but he was asked several times to not get into the political conversations. No one banned him just to do it. Can we talk about Spitfires now?

A warbird is the only thing we have that links us to a past, that way too many people are willing to forget.

I would rather discuss another situation that is more frightening than who or who does not moderate: The overall decline in airshows in the United States, and the stricter control that the FAA, the TSA, and the DHS is causing to reduce flight operations for shows.

Yes we are in a deep recession (almost depresion, and no I don't give a darn who got us there), but warbirds are getting hangered, or locked up in museums at a tremendous rate. Pilots for airshow's won't travel due to the new TSA rules for ramp access, and those that do, have to pay anywhere form 100.00 to 300.00 to obtain security clearences, and here in Colorado alone, we will only have 3 great airshows for this season. Last year we had 8 total. Kids and young folks who give up the TV and the video games to go and see warbirds flying help keep it alive, and all told, the loss of 5 shows means that they will spend 10 more day's in front of the TV and Gamestations, and not go out and support the planes.

As a "group" what, if anything can we do to help change this around ??

I never thought I would say this, but I believe that in what is left in my short lifespan, airshows in the US will either completely die out, and for sure warbirds will not be around to fly before I leave this planet.

Now that is something that WIX should be immersed, and actively involved in....

So, I'm Canadian and I can't help but follow US Politics. I feel that my opinions are just about as valid as 'some' US citizens. That being said I'm not going to share my opinions on this board because this is not the proper forum.

Now, my girlfriend is an American Citizen and she is embarrassed by your rhetoric, Jlittle2. To quote her she say she is "Embarrassed to say she is American when her fellow citizens make comments similar to yours." It just automatically makes her worry how non-American's view Americans when they read such negative comments.

Neither my girlfriend and I have anything personally against you Jlittle2, we just wanted to voice our concerns over such comments and how they can negatively effect people's views of Americans.

And now for something completely different.....

Airplanes!!!
