Fair enough Mark, I think we've both made our points, so I can't think of anything more to add that's not a rehash of what's been previously expressed unless somebody else joins the debate.

I am not Kermit, but just a nobody that no one here knows. It was nice debating with you, I wish others here could follow your example and actually debate facts and arguments without it getting personal and vitriolic and attacking the poster.

Anyone else have any opinions on which direction the forum should go in reference to anonymous posting, Mods, rules, etc.? I would like JDK to join the debate here and see his take on things from the perspective of a former Mod.

Thanks! :)

Shouldn't one of you guys questioned the other's sanity, motives, or national origin? Have you learned nothing from the internet?

...and let's not forget these favourite topics offriendly discussion:

- static vs. flying restorations
- left wing vs. right wing politics
- the FAA, TSA, ATF, FBI, CIA, the US Navy, and (fill in your favourite gov't agency here) are all incompetent clowns who know nothing about anything and hate all of us

Cheers,

I think it would be great to hear more from both past and present moderators: what would make their jobs easier and/or allow them to be more effective.

I would also like to weigh in against mandatory use of real names on the forum. Given that my experience is that real names don't do a whole lot to promite civility, I'm not still not sure I see the point.

Additionally, my fear is that real names attached to public posts run the risk of surfacing elsewhere on the internet, very possibly taken out of context and used in a damaging way. Many of the message posts on this fourm do show up in Google searches, for instance.

I'm a nobody and am a bit queasy about this. I think that if I was a somebody, especially a somebody with the resources (read $$) that many warbird owners/operators have I think I might be pretty leery of having my casual comments spread about the internet, particularly in our litigious society. In other words, I think it may very well deter many from posting.

I very much like the idea of anonymous moderators and strictly enforced polities vis a vis personal attacks.

Just my opinion, for what it's worth.

Steve

This hit home. About twelve years ago in another aviation related forum, I used a much less recognizable screen name but did use my first name in most posts. Never gave out any other personal information such as last name, specific location or pictures. But I still attracted a cyber stalker who became a real life one when he apparently travelled from Ohio (so the police surmised) to take pictures of my house and my car parked at workplace in Texas and then email them to me. Luckily the police showed him the error of his ways.

Certainly am not anonymous on WIX now but I still will not put my full name in my posts. But it is easily discovered right here in the Registry. And I will often give out personal information in PMs if it is warranted and I trust the person requesting it.

Cheers,

On the musicians' forum I moderate, these have musical equivalents;

Cover bands vs original bands
'Feel' players vs Technical players
Punk vs metal

I swear you could replace 'static display' with 'speed/chops player' and it's all the same conversation.

AMEN INDEED!! I can account for hearing all of those arguments, while not online, certainly in person.

Now you're talking! Years ago, my father wanted to paint a Flying V flat gray and stencil on a partial ID, so it looked as if it were cut from an aircraft. I might buy a cheap knock off and do that in his honor.

I repainted my guitar with a can of Testors flat olive drab. I think it looks pretty sweet now that it's all beat up.
