Anyone heard details or times of any flypasts planned for this weekend for the Grand Opening of the new War Museum in Ottawa..I have heard of a flypast planned for the Sunday CF-18's but someone mentioned that they heard about a flypast also planned on Saturday...any news out there!

I haven't heard anything. I plan to avoid the museum for at least a few days since it is likely to be a zoo. Perhaps latter in the week I will make visit and try and get some pictures.

I had the opportunity to be at the Ottawa Airport yesterday to witness the CWHM Lancaster perform three very impressive low and fast flybys for those like me who had waited in hopes of a single flypast... She had arrived early into Ottawa airspace and had about 30 minutes to fly around before their flypast the new museum at 4:00ish... After her fly past downtown she headed home...I think in the past the Lancaster has stopped at the airport but not this time perhaps wishing to return by supper time...anyone know what the max duration(flight time) of the CWHM Lancaster is currenty? I am guessing that it was a couple hours to get to Ottawa and a couple more return to Hamilton!! A long day for the crew..

I am curious to know what the price was for that little outing. I bet it wasn't cheap!

Well...........

I bet that those paying the bill did not really care about the price.

Wonder if the price charged is the same when selling to public/Gov events or selling to private ones ?????

I guess if it was me to decide !!!!!

However I am sure glad that all the veterans where treated to the tribute they deserved. Independently of whom paid for it.

In this case Mike, its both you and I and am glad & proud of it.

I was at the museum yesterday. I missed the first flypast since I was inside. Upstaged Paul Martin's speech - quite humous.

I made it out in time to get one really bad picture on the second pass, then waited for the third, camera ready. But the photographers didn't stand a chance on the third pass. It just suddenly appeared!! I'm not good at estimating altitude, but that third pass was LOW and LOUD  :o  . And directly overhead!! I won't soon forget that one. FANTASTIC.

For those that didn't make it downtown, the parade to the museum was excellent too. Lots of Vets in the parade, lots of vintage vehicles, and lots of people lining the streets to show their appreciation. An excellent event. I got lots of pictures, but they don't really belong on this site I guess.

It's always great to see the Lanc flying. I try to catch every flypast of VRA I can, because I imagine that there won't be too many more years of flying for her.

Did any of Mr. Potter's aircraft fly for events in Ottawa? I haven't heard or seen any news of his aircraft flying and was hoping that maybe the Spitfire got out and about.

I would think that in order to cover her operating costs..it would cost at least $20K-$25K USD to bring her in for the flyby.

I was hoping that some representative of the "Potter Air Force" would be in the air, but alas, it was just the 3 F-18s plus the Lanc. Not bad of course, but a single engine merlin would have been a great addition.

Anyone know that status of SL721? I've been meaning to post this question for a while. Since it wasn't in the air on the weekend, I'm assuming it is not yet back in the air. Does anybody know when we might see it flying again? I really hope it is back in the air for Canada Day.
