We have windows 98 and we keep getting a porno site entry popping up on the screen every couple of minutes (Adult.com). We have Norton and Symantec, but neither recognizes it as a virus. The pop-up blocker doesn't help.
We can't get it to stop. Anyone know how to prevent it?

Why would you want to block it?
Sorry, I'm no help.

Before running your anti-virus program, you must temporarily disable the Windows automatic back-up feature.
Since windows will check on the back-up for the most recent version of your settings at boot time, the virus will usually be copied to the back-up and thus, you may run the anti-virus as many times as you want, but the back-up will continue to load up at boot time.
Disabling the back-up feature, and running your anti-virus programs untils your disk is clean, will ensure that the virus will not be automatically copied at boot time.
I had that issue several years ago, and I managed to clean the disk that way.
Upgrade if you can, to Windows XP and make sure to have the firewalls up.
Good luck.

not yet. FIrst try a few freeby spyware programs like adaware

it's the green download on the right hand side.

AVG is the other one I use when I get an infection. Between these two you might well solve your problem. If not, we'll try something else
You can also find free pop up blockers but this won't fix your real problem.
I've never been got by a porrnn pop up but I'm sure it's been added to someone's spyware/viral vault by now.
I wouldn't suggest reverting back to an older file. I would first back up all of your dat on a cd or thwo, and reload my system (I do this once or twice a year anyway) but I am not sure this is wise for the average user...

I just got my computer back from the Geek Squad. We had a severe virus and they re-did the computer. The computer finally locked up and i had to have a pro take care of it. Thanks for all the ideas.

First off, wow, Windows 98? I think that it should be tossed in the garbage!
Windows 98 Second Edition had so many memory leaks, I am surprised that it doesnt lock up after being on after 20 minutes.
