Warbird Information Exchange

I spent some time at the CAvM yesterday afternoon doing some volunteer work for Project North Star in their office in the restoration hanger.

The first thing I noticed when I entered the hanger was a CT-114 Tutor nose section. It is from CAF s/n 114055. Apparently it will be used as a display and educational aid where children will be allowed to climb into the cockpit. Apparently it came from Mountain View, and I checked my notes and I found I spotted this one at the Hamilton airshow in 1994!

I didn't go for a walk inside the main display building this time. I did notice that the CF-100 Mk 5 fuselage with RCAF s/n 18752 is still stored outside. I have been told that it is planned to display it on a pylon someplace, but the exact location is not known (by myself at least). It has been rumoured that it would be displayed at the Diefenbunker (and cold war underground nuclear bomb/fallout bunker). I have also heard that it would be displayed someplace near the entrance to the museum on a pylon. Time will tell.

Have been at CAvM thrice over the past five days in conjunction with the CAAA art conference and the Artflight show opening. A DHC Beaver airframe ex Pakistan was recently delivered (it is stored in the new hangar currently) and the intention is to mount it and the ex-Uplands CF-100 near the museum entrance.

Got a surprise this morning when I stopped by CAvM to pick up a book I'd been dithering over...watched the transfer of the museum's Hispano 1112 Buchon from a tractor-trailer to a tiltbed recovery truck, and thence into the new hangar. "471:39" had been on loan to WCAM in Winnipeg; I had no clue she was returning and saw the unloading today by pure fluke.

I had not idea that the Hispano 1112 Buchon would return either..I really like that example..very striking colour scheme..

Does the 109 belong to CAM or is that on loan? I can't remember

That's interesting; I was at the WCAM on Wednesday and there was a truck outside. I just ducked into their gift shop for a moment but I did hear somebody call out "We're all loaded up - see you later." I was in a hurry so I didn't bother going out on the floor to see what was new or missing.

But I was wondering what was in that truck!
