I am just getting back into aircraft modeling after being out of it for about 25 years.. I am just starting a Tamiya 1/48 P-51D. It is the first I time will be building a Tamiya kit.I have a question about the some of the symbols used for the Tamiya paint.I have run into several that look like the example I have listed and don't know what it means. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Karl

There should be a key somewhere on your instruction sheet that tells you what each paint code equates to. I forget exactly where, but I think it is on the front page of the instructions and is rather hard to find the first time you look for it.

I was also puzzled by Tamiya's paint code until I found a reference of what the paint color should be verses what Tamiya colors were available. On Tamiya's P-51B instruction sheet, they make reference to the following to paint parts of the seat:
XF-3:2 + XF-5:1
What this means is mix two parts XF-3 (flat yellow) with one part XF-5 (flat green). This is suppose to give the yellow chromate color using their paints. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I thought it might have something to do with mixing paint but I didn't want to mess with it until I knew for sure.
