You might be right about the CAF airplane, Gary. I checked the revision date on my manual and it was printed in February of '45. Lots of changes happened on the production line after that date. I have another "quick reference" book that was printed by Boeing in 1950 when so many B-29s were being reactivated--possibly there is a T.O. in that book that would clarify the question.

			Folks,
Thanks to everyone for the information. Fire extinguisher bottles it is! They will be painted red on my B-29 model, correct color or not. At least the color will remind me of what they are in my old age
Thanks again everyone

I dug out my Academy 1/72 Superfort kit just to see what was in there. It turns out they didn't really mold the nose gear bay anything like the original so there isn't a rear bulkhead to fasten the bottles to. I'll still do some digging to see if the later airplanes had them moved to the bomb bay.

I did some research and some B-29s had four round bottles, two mounted in each main wheel well, like a KC-97. They had chlorobromomethane as an agent in stead of CO2 like the two bottles in the nose wheel well.

Interesting. I wonder when the bottles were moved on FIFI? It looks too professionally done for the old-time CAF guys to have done it. That's not meant to be an insult, but rather just an observation.

Good question. The T.O. I have is dated 1955, so it would have to be after that.

Are those photos of the NEAM B-29, Smis? And if they are, that airplane rolled off the Renton line 104 airplanes earlier than the CAF machine.

			the330thbg,
Thanks for posting the photos. This is exactly what I was wondering about. It's also nice to see that it generated some discussion and a few learned something new. I know I did.
Thanks again,
Bill
