So there I was...sitting at my computer typing away for work and listening to my scanner for the background noise. I hear a call go out for police and fire to resond to an emergency in progress.
Turns out it was a T-28 who lost it's engine a few miles from the airport. Couldn't make it to the field and elected to land on North Livermore Ave north of Highway 580. All is good. From what I can ascertain, no damage.
This happened just after 2pm.
Right now it is close to 4pm and they have the highway shutdown and are in the progress of towing it back to the airport. They are wondering how they are going to get it off the highway and back on the surface streets.
Should be interesting.

The airplane's N-number is N2053C and that is who it is registered to.
They tugged it back to the airport ok. Caused quite a mess on the highway, tho.
I'm just glad everything worked out ok and no injuries.

There was a call for someone to clean up the "Massive amount of oil" where he landed.

as they say the Wright engine is the Wrong engine, I think I'll stick to flying behind P&W's.

Sorry Spoky can't agree with you except for the R-1300 which is a piece of junk. Count the a/c that get dragged around by wrights and have been for 60+ years. BTW the R-3350 is considered by many to be the finest piston aircraft engine ever made. I've been behind a P&W when it blows and believe me they blow really good!!!
Wright engined aircraft inc the B-17, B-25, A-20, SBD, SB2C, TBF/TBM, FM-2, B-29, T-28, AD/A-1, DC-3, S2/WF, Connie, DC-7 and numerous golden age aircraft that made our aviation world and they did it behind the wright j-5 whirlwind like say oh Chuck Lindberg.

The sweet sound of a R-1820-80 something,
It really is a great sound, especially when you have heard it stop before!
I have never experienced it but I have heard stories. I think the Col. has.
Short stacks, WOOHOO!

So.. as long as he doesn't go into the left lane(s) hes probably ok, otherwise shouldn't they have someone in the back seat so they don't get a ticket for not carpooling??

Like dude.. i'm from Michigan and we don't do no stinkin' car poolin' so i'm not sure of your rules.

Cheers
Tony

Hmmn:

I think it would've been better if they brought in a flatbed to remove the plane. I think it wouldn't've affected traffic so bad. :x

Would have taken several more hours to remove it by flatbed. They would have had to come up with the appropriate lifting slings and then have the correct sized I beam strapped to the trailer to set the main gear into. At that point you would also start having to take into account sign and overpass height limitations. With a max load height of only 13' 5", there will still be places that the vertical fin would be in danger of hitting, if it wasn't already at least that height. Also by placing the aircraft on a flatbed, it will have moved the vertical CG so high that it would limit the trailer to taking only the roadway. With the a/c on the ground and it's own gear it's possible to maneuver around signs ect. without the danger of a rollover or having to remove the signs.

I've run the "Drop the sign and race on to the next one" crew before on some aircraft moves where it had to be done, and it's no fun at all.
