Does anyone know what the Bush Avenger markings really were. Apparently there is some confusion over whether or not it carried the name Barbara III on it. Also anyone know where I can get some decals for this aircraft? Thank you

I remember that at first every "Bush" Avenger had the #2 on it. It turned out that one of the few photos of him in front of an Avenger showed Bush in front of the Executive Officer's aircraft which was #2 (X2 I think). Bush actually flew #3.

Accurate minatures made a 1/48 scale with Bush's markings, as does Lindburg.

The Avenger hanging in the Bush library doesn't appear to have any name on it. From what I can gather, most naval aviators did not name their planes because of regulations or tradition, not sure.

Yeah, that is 2X. 3X that he flew is the one that I think carried the art work. I think there is a pphoto of it, but have never been able to find out for sure.

It is simple to find out, write the Bush Library in Collage Station Texas and ask

Did anyone read "Flyboys"? It give a very detailed account of Chi Chi Jima Island, and what may have happened to Bush if he was caught there. It also gives the history of Chi Chi Jima, and many details about other Naval Aviators shot down there.

I did, it was a pretty good book I thought. Some issues here and there, but painted a very interesting light on some things.

MODERATORS-
I can tolerate most of the B.S. that gets flung around on this site, but I believe you should draw the line @ the avatar that A2C is currently using. It is extremely disrespectful to the Office of President of the United States.

Please keep your politics out of here, we've been down that road on this forum and there are plenty of other forums that welcome your narrow minded outlook on politics

I guess I am nuts, but if I went to all the trouble to be shot down after a raid on Chi Chi Jima and having been elected President of the USA some 40 years later, I would want the Avenger in my museum to represent the one I was shot down in. But who knows, these seem to be strange times.

I think we are talking about two different Avengers that he flew. One coded 2X and the other 3X. One carried the name and the other carried no markings other than the unit ones.

I didn't realize it would offend anybody, sorry about that.
