Russian Sea Fury discovered

Wed May 18, 2005 11:35 pm

Okay, well maybe it's just painted like a Sea Fury. Took this picture last Saturday at the All Red Star formation clinic at Castle Airport, CA. Previous owner to the current owner had this Yak 50 painted in this scheme.

Is this forum not about warbirds?

replicas

...and an occasional "replica warbird" slips in Willy.

Well, the Yak-50 is a military training aircraft, is it not? IMO a warbird and a military aircraft are one in the same. I suppose the overwhelming majority of AT-6's wouldn't be warbirdd either then?

What'd ya mean? A sea fury's a warbird right?

The –50 was made in relatively small numbers (312) until 1985, of which the vast majority were for the Russian DOSAAF and exported were only eight to East Germany and six to Bulgaria.

Although it was never introduced directly into Russian military service, military pilots who were trained in state-sponsored aeroclubs (DOSAAF) were trained in the Yak-50. The Yak-50, having a much better weight to horsepower ratio than the standard trainers of the day (Yak-18A), was used as an advanced aerobatic mount for competition and military fighter pilots. The Yak-50 was used as a military trainer in several other nations.

Above from two different websites.

So does it qualify as a warbird?
