Hi gang
I an trying to get some gags manufactured to clamp around the fescalized portions of the oleos of a retired civil airliner. You know the sort of thing, a steel tube sliced down the middle and then clamped around the oleo's to keep the extension looking correct. Has any body got a picture or a link to a picture so I can show "The powers that be" what I'm talking about.
I know what I'm on about but every time I mention them I detect a slight galzeing of the eyes!!!.

Let me look and find my pix from my vac 2 yrs ago to Universal Studio's theme park. Jimmy Buffets Albatross was there and its struts had them.

"Gags" are clamps to stop un-wanted movement. In this case to stop the oleo's collapsing
"Fescalized portion" is the silver bit on the undercarriage that slides into the fixed portion of the leg. It is often mistakenly called "Stainless steel". It is in fact a very hard chromium plating. One of the processes used to put the chrome on is called "Fescalizing".
Well that's what I was told any way!!!!. This might be a British colloquialism or might be spelt wrong!!!!

Tulio, I'm assuming a "gag" is a clamp which attached to the chromed
(fescalized), piston part of the strut in order to keep the aircraft from
"laying down" on the stops, when the pressure bleeds off...but I'm only
guessing....

I am interested in the origin of these terms though.....I hope I haven't
stumbled into something kinky..well, not too kinky... :shock:

If its any help off on a slight tangent, you might try JCB or other hydraulic construction equipment as they have 'gags' as you call them for the rams which do exactly the same job you are after, they have them for safety so you can work on the vehicle under the raised arm/bucket etc.

Concorde. Yes I know it's the wrong forum but The "Gags" I have seen were on preserved military aircraft. Needless to say I have the ear of a person who can get Sets manufactured for all of the preserved ones!!!!.
Now if we can just get them all indoors....
