OK. so from leafing through the book "Flight of the Avenger George Bush @ War" it says from the log of the USS Finback "1156. Picked up Lt jg George Bush, file # 173464, USNR, pilot of plane T-3 of VT 51, USS San Jacinto.
Later on the book goes on to state that "a James Egan, a marine salvage expert and the project director for Ferrumar Corporation of Alexandria, Virginia recently located its position and proposes to bring it to the surface sometime soon"
This book was published in 1991.

Is that even possible? Please correct me if I'm wrong but from George Bush's, via James Bradley, telling of the account, he bailed out of the Avenger at altitude and it careened into the surrounding waters of Chi Chi Jima with the his other 2 crew members aboard.
Realistically the aircraft would have to be hardly recognizable and mostly debris. Bring it to the surface? Not intact. Besides it's a war grave.
I don't recall as I don't have my copy of "Flyboys" handy, but when GB bailed out of the Avenger, had he or had he not released his ordinance yet?

I believe that it was after his run on Chi Chi Jima.

Trumpeter makes a GB Avenger in 1/32 scale. You need a hanger for it though. I'll get a pic of the one I built.

Leo W. Nadeau was GW's gunner and survived the ditching.
He was GW's gunner from Sept 43 to Dec 44, survived 3 crashes and 57 missions.
I have a pic of him in a TBM-3E Turret, circa 1995
