Warbird Information Exchange

Three DOUGLAS WORLD CRUISERS arrived back @ N.A.S. Sand Point on Lake Washington after sucessfully completing the first aieral circumnavigation of the earth.
Only two original starters finished the flight, the SEATTLE crashed in Alaska and the BOSTON put down in the Atlantic Ocean. CHICAGO and New Orleans were joined in Nova Scotia by the 'BOSTON 2' to complete the flight.
CHICAGO is in the NASM and New Orleans is in the MUSAF.

Now I know why I put on my DOUGLAS 'first around the world' logo tee shirt Sunday

One of the Douglas World Cruisers is on loan to The Museum of Fling (Santa Monica). They had it on display until the museum closed.

They are supposed to be opening a new museum (scaled back).

PS: When they closed, I purchased their T-33, which I have since sold. Another Wixer has it, where it was involved in a hanger fire. Supposedly it only received minor heat damage and lots of smoke damage.

Having had a close look at it there are 2 options:
Full restoration
or
Hermetically seal it in a very large plastic bag.

Right now it's in a VERY fragile state & has had tissue paper applied in some vain attempt to stop the fabric turning to dust. I'd be afraid to fart/sneeze/cough within 25ft of it.
