I've been playing with my new birthday toy, a slide scanner. I didn't get proficient with it soon enough to share my LSFM PB4Y pictures before Chuck Gardner supplied his fine photos. However, when I visited Lone Star in early April, a number of planes seemed to be in serious "pre-season" maintenance. I hope you appreciate the comparison of the P-47 radial with the Spitfire's Merlin.

You seem to be getting some good results with that scanner. How many pixels can it produce? Does it do negatives?

At last. Somebody has finally got the undercarriage up to operating height.
The poor old girl was cruising around on the 'bump stops' when last seen taxiing out.

The scanner is a Konica Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400 II. It can scan up to 5400 dpi, although those scans take quite a while and creates a huge file. Most of these images I'm providing for your review were scanned at 2700 dpi. I believe the flying P-38 below was scanned at 5400 dpi. This scanner is strictly a 35mm slide/negative scanner. The imaging software is decent, but most of these had a bit more tweaking with Paint Shop Pro 8. The resizing/compression to 400 X 600 dpi jpgs was done with Paint Shop also. Obviously, some detail is lost in the resizing.
All the pictures in this follow up message were scanned from negatives. They were taken on a far from photo perfect Saturday at last year's World War II days in Reading, PA. Unfortunately, I've only had time to practice on some of my pictures from that event. However, you should get an idea of the resolution. I got much, much better color shots of the Hurri and Spit in the morning sun at Geneseo last year.

Great pictures. I miss having Neil Roses's Hurricane out here though. By the looks of the Yankee's B-25D, they're still allowing people in the nose on take-offs and landings which is very scary!

With the advent of the Figher Factory and others, the East Coast Warbird scene got more interesting during my five year sabbatical in Houston.

Were the pictures taken on Saturday? If so you where only about 50 ft from me at the show. Great shots.

Last year, I was at the show on the Friday fly in day and Sunday. Saturday was too soggy for me. I'm way behind my schedule for putting my show pictures on my website (only a year
), but I hope to get to them soon. If you want, I'll post an alert when I put the WWII Day pics on the site.
I was going to the attend the Fly-in day today, but it rained all day in SE PA. The rain is supposed to end by tomorrow morning, but it will be mostly cloudy. The forecasters are saying "some sun" for Sunday. I'm going tomorrow and possibly Sunday morning .... family obligations prevent a full day on Sunday. If you're there and see a portly, middle aged dude (graying mustache) wearing a floppy tan hat and photography vest lugging a tripod, say hello!

I still have to make a case about going Sunday, but I think I can do it. Well, I hope I can, Family / Church things going on that I refused to commit myself too.
I'll be on the look out if I go. I'll be warring a Red T-shirt that has some FA-18s on the back and says "You Can't Beet a Redcock", it was my Squadrons Motto (before anyone asks or make crude comments about it (not that it stops anyone)).
I have short hair (high & tight) and some facial hair and in the 30 year old range. I have a black camera bag with a WIX button on it.
