Flying Legends 2005 DUXFORD

Sat Jun 04, 2005 4:26 pm

I'm just wondering how many WIX'ers out there will be at Duxford on the 8-9-10 of July. It might be a good time to get together for a photo.
I'll be working out of the press HQ, at the base of the control tower. That is a good central place to meet. If anyone else that will be attending would like to propose a time/date for a meeting, I'm open to any suggestions. I know some great pubs in the area too.

I will arrive late friday night. Might stay near Stansted for that night and come to Dux on Sat morning. Since you're bringing me some stuff, I guess I have to buy you some beers..... :D The concensus on the flypast board goes towards the Red Lion in Whittlesford. Might that be agreeable?

I'll bum my way to the field, and then, who knows!!

I'll be there Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I'm looking forward to meeting up with some of you transatlantic WIXers coming over for the show.

Should be a great weekend! :D

Mrs. Mudge and I are planning to be there all three days. If United Airlines is flying, that is. If they're not flying, we won't be there. I'm retired UAL and the only way we can afford to make the trip is on my passes. (No, they're not free, and you don't want me to tell you how much it costs.)
I'm not difficult to spot...6'6" and 240 lbs. (That's just a shade over 17 stone for you "die hards".)
Mrs. Mudge isn't difficult to pick out either. Petite redhead with a body to die for.
Hope to meet you there.

We are off to a good start guys. I think we would all be remiss if we didn't pay a visit to the EAGLE in Cambridge. For those of you that may not have been there, it is the pub the bulk of the American flyboys called their home away from home while stationed at the bases around Cambridge. Hundreds of them wrote their names, initials, sqdn or group numbers on the ceiling of the pub with zippo lighters or candles. It got covered completely after the war from smoking residue and wasn't rediscovered for many years, until a couple ex-US Flyboys dropped in there and wondered if their names were still there. The pub had changed hands several times and the owners at that time, had no idea that the ceiling held that historical treasure. A very careful cleaning job was done and then clearcoated, so it is easily readable to this day.

Another pub choice, with better food is the CHEQUERS in Fowlmere. It is also an aviation themed pub.
If there is anyone else that plans to attend, let us know.

Hey boys,
Say hello to Brian, he is a white bearded fellow that I ran into at Old Warden and Duxford when I was there a few years back. I thought it was neat to hear his stories from years past, and how he rides his bicycle to the shows and camps out nearby.

Another person i met while I was there was Ken Dawson. Unfortunately I have not run into him since. He had walked up to the fence to ask what the weather was going to be for the weekend and I heard his southern accent. "Where you from?" I asked. He replied "Charlotte North Carolina"

Ok I'm done

YOU GUYS HAVE FUN!

I'll be there all three days as well, I'm staying a couple of miles from the Red Lion so I'll probably be found there in the evenings.

It'll be good to meet a few faces from Wix, I'm easy to spot, 6 foot tall (and about the same wide), no hair and an unfeasibly heavy camera bag.

I'll be there, arriving in Cambridge on the 7th.

We'll need to fix a RZ point at Duxford so we can all hook up.
