Vintage Drag Races - WWII Airstrip Style

Sun Oct 11, 2009 11:46 pm

Eagle Field, better our WWII training base in Central Califonia, hosted our first annual Vintage Drag races. It was a huge success and we hope to make it an annual event. I local vintage car group held the event with some proceeds goint towards our museum and preserving the airfield.

For my father who raced cars in the 60s and is a huge car lover it was a special event to see racing on an airstrip just like it was back when he was racing.

We had everythign from a Warbird flover, hotrods, muscle cars, and even a few military vehicles.

Gary,

I hope to see your truck out there burning some rubber next year. The really cool part about that fire engine is that it is 100% functional and maintained in prime operating condition. The truck owner Mark Jones who is a fire captian and our offcial event fire captian actully uses it as a functioning fire truck at our events along with our other vintage fire truck. This first annual drag race and jalopy gathering was one of the funnest events we have evr had. On saturday we had T-28 flyovers and on Sunday a B-25. On Saturday we had a race on average every few minutes for hours. In between the car races they had some mini bike drags. Anyone who loves old cars or dry lake bed racing would absolutely love this event.

Here's one for sale, sans what appears to be a good portion of the accessories.

I always thought it would be cool to have a fully operational WWII vintage fire truck handy. It'd be great for parades, and would also serve a valid purpose for keeping the ol' country homestead safe, etc. And you'd always be welcome at cool events like the one above. 8) Gotta love all the neato brass bits too!

Neat truck, Rob. Thanks for posting that.

I think it would be pretty cool to be able to take my truck out to those drags next year. Maybe I need to put that on my "to do" list, in order to help encourage me to get it done. I doubt it'll be very competitive, but it should be fun nonetheless.

That's awesome!

I remember that red with white flames '56 from R&C I think about 7 or 8 years ago.

I wouldn't insult the guy by calling that car a rat rod. It's definitely more of a gow job or modified traditional hot rod.
