The book Desert Airliners (Graham Robson) has, on page 2 (Title page) a lineup of coccooned commercial airliners at Mojave, CA.

Right under the first airplane, you can see this:

At first, I thought T-33, but looking at the shape of the fuselage, seems to me it is too wide for a T-33, and the shape of the intakes is not like the T-33s, the canopy is different, and so on.

So . . . is it a T-33? Or . . .???

I remember back some time seeing pics of a highly modified T-33 being used in a test program for something. I will see if I can dig it up. :?:

Of course this photo doesn't lend us much but it looks like it has swept wings - almost a F-14 looking nose and canopy - also is that another airliner behind it or does the subject have a really tall tail?

It is it a eastern bloc plane :?:

Are you talking about the "Skyfox"?

That's definitely not the aircraft pictured, though. The one in the photo looks like a Saab A-32 to me.

Saab Lansen ('Lance') I would say. I believe a few were imported into the USA during the 1980s

Thank you, guys! This is one of those little "useless bits of information" that I am sure all of us store somewhere in our minds.

As soon as I read "Lansen" I mentally slapped my forehead, and said "Of course! It fits the outline!"

If I recall correctly, the highly modified T-33 (Skyfox) had a triangular shape fuse, that looked kinda like a Me-262, while the powerplants were located (the two of them) on the tail of the aircraft.

It was bigger than a T-33 (and really ugly to look at).
