OK, here's the deal. My dad was on a trip through Cali on his Hog and sez in the area around the above mentioned that toolin along he looked over and about a half mile or so off the road he thought he saw a Skyraider. He didn't stop or turn around  :? :( so he asked me about it. Well I looked on Mikes Aerial Visuals(thanks greatly for the site Mike :D :!: ) and could only come up with the Beal AFB and Siller Brothers H-53. I don't think that is what he saw as that is kinda off the beaten path. I need to find out his direction he was moving.
Any body know about this :?: :?: :?: Thanks.

Time frame is two weeks ago. Talked to my dad and was able to locate the "aircraft" but I do not think its a Skyraider nor a Warbird. It is off highway 20 on the Marysville road. Here is bing maps location:

http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v ... &encType=1

Here is the Google cooridinates: 39 17' 30.53N 121 22' 36.12W

There is a small strip next to this place but it doesn't look very long. In the google view there is some type of plane outside, then the bing view has it inside or out flying. It looks big but I can't tell what it is. Anyone familiar with this area? Thanks.

Steve, near there is a small field with a radial-powered Grumman Agcat that sits right next to the highway, which I saw sevral years ago, maybe that's what he saw. There are a lot of small duster fields in this area, my guess is that might be what he saw and mistook at the distance?

This is true. In fact, two complete P-38's were found not too far from there that the collector bought right after W.W.II and held on to until about 10 to 15 years ago. They were not very well publicized until they came "out of hiding" for restoration. Unfortunately, only one of those P-38's is still around.

If you're referring to Bruce Pruett, "right after W.W.II" is a little misleading. Both 38s had been used for some time by Mark Hurd Aerial Surveys of Minneapolis, MN. The pair sat through the auction which saw some of the other Hurd Lightnings sold in the late 60s. Only after this did Pruett get the pair.

It still surprises me that there seem to be so few photos of the one which crashed (killing Jeff Ethell) after it got painted. Since it was sitting in a museum where a lot of people visited one would imagine that a P-38 is something that you'd photograph!
