Makes you think, why is the FAA at an
airport/airbase in Japan during the late
1960's and 1970's.
They sure can't be checking up on the
military maint. ground crews?
Any Ideas?

Its a flight check aircraft, It's equipped with instrumentation to check the signals for the enroute and approach ground based radio stations, ie, VOR's, ILS's, TACAN's, NDB's, etc.

Most of if not all the flight check aircraft for the military ILS,VORs etc.
were performed by the C-140.
The FAA T-39 might have been checking the equipment that U.S.
registered aircraft were flying.
There are several camo C-140's pictured on this thread.

I have news about the C118A c/r 43708, lately registered as YV214T,, yes the one you see in the photo above this lines,, unfortunately it is NOT working anymore.. is resting in pieces and planned to be reassembled for static display above a concrete base. That location is actually very close to my house,, if anyone request it I will post some photos of that noble bird.
