Does anyone else feel that this lovely creation would be well received in kit form?

You cannot see her, but his wife is sitting in the dark space behind the pilot's seat. (She is brave!)

This info came in an email, I don't know the Photog, and I can not verify the info.

"Jim O'Hara is a member of EAA chapter 493 in San Angelo . He is a retired college professor (I believe in Aeronautical Engineering) who learned to fly when he was about 60 years old. He's now 81 years old. 15 years ago, he began construction of a 2/3 scale P-38. Using information he obtained from various sources about the P-38, he drew up a set of plans using a computer aided design program. Jim and his wife Mitzi built the entire aircraft by themselves. I've been fortunate enough to know Jim for almost the entire 15 years that he's been working on his "project." He first flew his plane in July of last year, and has just completed flying off the time (I believe it was 50 hours). He designed the plane to have a small jump seat behind the pilot for his wife. She's tiny, and it's a good thing; the jump seat doesn't have much room.

He made his first cross-country with Mitzi from San Angelo to Fredericksburg Saturday, accompanied by many of his friends from Chapter 493. He's planning on bringing it to Eldorado for our annual BBQ next Saturday (Oct 31)."

AND guns! What a beautiful a/c. Great job!!!!

That is just amazing. God would that be a sweet kit.

His eye is really good in that unlike all of the other scaled planes, this one looks very very accurate and does not seem like a "kit".

Its a beautiful plane in its own right.

What a stunning effort!

That replica is simply stunning!!!

He truly did an amazing job.

I'm mind blown. It must have taken him a very long time to create such an accurate scale replica. Wow.

So, I want the details, engines? Metal work? Who made the panels and the wing root fairings, etc.? If this guy did, he is an amazing Gent. How is this project documented and where will it go from here?

I am amazed!

"Jim O'Hara is a member of EAA chapter 493 in San Angelo" So does anyone know the secret to track Jim down through the EAA Chapter to see what his plans are. Anyone have the inside track to Jim? How about a group venture to produce this baby as a kit.

Come on, who's with me?????

It would make a sweet one. I wonder what the cost of soemthing like this is in kit form.

Upon further examination, the wing root primary fairings and the engine cowlings are absolutely beautiful! I wonder if he had fabrication help on those. Also, since he has air cooled flat 6's in the engine department, I wonder if the boom scoops actually help evacuate air from the engine compartment, aiding the cooling.

Man would I like to see someone do an engineering expose on the entire plane and systems. Gear, panels, interior, the whole shebang. What did he do for a main spar? The Thunder Mustang was a $.75M kit once upon a time. Wonder who has the $$ and such to take this to the next level if Jim was interested? Boy, I hope he did a lot of photo documentation during the build and that it makes it to the public one day.
