Am I the only one who can't see any pictures? Do you need to be registered to see them?

This is in amazing condition due to the cold fresh water lake that it was found in no doubt. The exact identity was not mentioned but apparently it was found in a lake in northern Austria. It was also mentioned that it was sold to someone in the US.

Have you confirmed any information Martin?

regards,

t~

working on it

Will post some info tonight, including an excerpt from "Thundermonsters over Europe", where the incident of this loss is described in detail.

Aghh - Not one picture gives enough clue - I can't believe it - I have seen about 20 now and all I can make out is Dottie M*, with what looks like a 'y' as well - just.. Dotty May....

How about that mural on the nose as well? :) I'm amazed by the completeness of the plane! Let's hope someone with some sense of history and authenticity gets this one. To be frank, if the new owner's intent is to fly it, I'd almost rather see this type of plane traded to a high quality museum in exchange for a similar, more generic example with no combat history. One of the few exceptions I can think of would be the NHC, or someone with little or no tendency toward 'sport plane' alterations. Combat time capsules like this are fantastically rare.

This info was on the German website:

2/Lt. Henry G. Mohr, Jr. of the 405th fG 511th

Holy Bomb Shackles Batman !!

This Thunderbolt looks to be in amazing condition. I hope, as a previous poster put it, that the new owner will put the proper amount of respect into a combat veteran like this one. And if she's is to be flown...the by all means...PLEASE do so with care. Amazing find !! Amazing condition ! Congrats to the folks who found and raised her.

Kinda makes you wonder what Alan Bunte's 4th FG P51B Mustang looks like after all these years in that lake south of Potsdam doesn't it? :)

Wonder why no one's gone after that combat vet.
