Drug runner P-40 that went missing?(1970's?)

Tue Nov 24, 2009 10:45 am

I recall a article in Air Classics(mid-late 90's) about a drug smuggler that had a P-40. Remember a picture in the mag showing him in his P-40 minus the engine cowling and he flew it like that. Stated that he flew it to Central or South America and was never seen or heard from again. Anyone remember this story? Was wondering if there had ever been any leads to whatever happened? Do you think the guy crashed or he went into hidding? :?:

Always thought it was on interesting story. Would be cool walking in the Amazon and finding a stashed P-40!! :D

Thanks,
Nathan

Only drug runner that comes to mind with a P-40 was Neil Bird in FL. But I don't think his was anywhere near flyable.
