This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Just out of curiosity.............
That Corsair on a pedestal
Seems odd to keep such a bird outside, considering what they are worth today.

It is odd,
Someone, Rob, Larry W..., was saying that they were offered a Plastic mock up to replace it along with an offer to buy it(?). Shame it isn't saved from the Weather & Birds.
Its not even like it is a F4U, Its a FG, Go figure.

Supposedly in the near future it is going to come down and be restopred and put in the nearby Museum (either the one extant or the proposed new facility) so it should be well taken care of then, and the fibreglass job will be put up in its place. The whole Vought factory is supposed to come down in the not too distant future due to the fact that it takes up a LOT of waterfront space (there is a small bay on the north side of the factory) and as soon as the army, who owns it now, turns the title for the place over to the city of Stratford, they plan on wiping out the whole place and building a whole new facility with shops and such on the site-and hopefully the new Museum, if I recall right. It will be a sad day when the factory goes, but I can see their point....it takes up a TON of space and it's not being used for anything right now, it could be used better.
Just hope I get to get back there again and get some photos of the place before the building goes down....it should be recorded for posterity and history's sake...
