A-26 Invader

Sat Nov 21, 2009 7:47 pm

back in the ealry 90's there was an A-26 in the midwest that was called gater invader. I thought I had heard that it was sold and flown over seas to Greece. Does anybody have any pictures of it and know if it is still active or even aroiund anymore. I had seen it at the dayton airshow a few times and also at the hamilton airaffairs when they used to have them. thanks

I saw that one up at Dayton too a couple of times. Here's the Warbird Registry info page: http://www.warbirdregistry.org/a26regis ... 34769.html

I'm not sure if it is flyable anymore. Don't think it has been in the air for ages. The owner is a Greek TV station mogul who has repainted the a/c silver with a Tazmanian devil nose-art. They have kept the cowl/ tail flashes though.

I only saw the airplane once from the air while doing touch and goes at Hamilton a day or two before the airshow. Anyone know where was it based? Was it actually in the Cincinnati area?

I think Gator Invader is the same A-26K that Wally McDonnell raced at the 1979 Mojave Air Races as "Mojave Kid". Kind of cool to see it in a 'drag race' with Dwight Reimer in his A-26 "Cotton Jenny".

The "Gator Invader" is the On-Mark Marketeer Lloyd Hamilton raced at Mojave in 1971. Race #16.
