Re: RAF Museum (Hendon) to get A-20G "Big Nig"

Wow, wow , wow!!! I have long awaited the day when an A-20 made it to these shores. One of the forgotten bombers that th RAF operated, and the USAAF operated from here.Hopefully this will go some way to rectifing that. That is such good news. It has been a long time coming, and has made me a happy man. Now , I suppose a Marauder is out of the question next! :D

I was hoping this one would be a flyer. So much for that.

Yeah, this sucks.

Now we have to wait another undetermined amount of time to see a friggin' Havoc airborne!!! How much longer till' an A-20 is actively flown!!!!!! It sometimes feels like once a type of aircraft becomes extinct from the air, its twice as hard to see one restored back to flying condition.

I sure was hoping that eventually "BN" would return to the states. Hopefully the restoration will be authentic!

Seems like a fair swap for a Spitfire.

I don't know about that considering he has a Spitfire already. I guess since he has the A-20's big brother (A-26) he didn't see the need for the older of the two. Has anything ever come out of Hendon into private hands to fly again?

Having this A-20 at Hendon is great. It is the only one in Europe. I think that it is going to a good home.

I just hope the RAF museum doesn't do something stupid like paint it up as a Boston, or paint it in ETO colors. The aircraft has a proven history and provenance, hopefully they will keep it in the SWP paint scheme.

Yea that sucks that it's not going to fly. I thought all of the A-20's that Precision were restoring were going to fly. What is the disposition of the other 1 or 2 at Precision?

Now Now Warbird1 the warbird in now under the hangar across the "pond".
You should know that she is going to be stripped, rubbed a little, and then she'll be covered in piant.......Not gold paint,
but as a Boston in  ETO scheme ... .............Oh the Humanity OOohhhhh........... :Hangman:

Oh No you diddn't, did you gray that out. :axe:

In the case of Warbird Nose Art :axe: Political correctness is NOT required.
It was the Nose Art on a Warrior, that is how they felt about it, that is what they painted on it, that is what she wore to War, and wore it as she was either shot down, scrapped in the area of operation, or back here at a reclaimation center for subsequent scrapping, so the original name is.....appropriate.

I'm not an A-20 buff, but do we even know the origin of the name of this particular plane?

Are we just assuming it's not a politically correct name or are we certain it is so?

Doubt that... the A-26 that FF has had is something of a really backburner project, if that. They began work on it a long time ago but were sinking more into it than what it is worth. If you look on their site, it's listed as a fair trade bait for any project.

One thing I will say about the stuff that is happening in and around Suffolk and VA Beach, they make decisions for a reason and always have projects in the wings and out of the public eye in the far corners of the earth. Just because we here at WIX don't know, doesn't mean something is happening in a tucked away bean silo or concrete plant in Monino. :-)

Have faith, I am sure we'll see an A-20 in the air someday...

Jerry doesn't owned 'Big Nig', Murray Griffiths does. There were two other wrecks acquired from the RAAFM and one of those is to be rebuilt for Jerry (see CW 60 Havoc Survivors)

And what about that last one - who owns that and is it being rebuilt to static or airworthy?
