Here's 42-6317, 444th Bomb Group (VH), converted into a tanker in the CBI. And yes, she did make it back to the States by December of 1944.

Dan, that is the diamond tread tire fresh off the assembly line. I've seen some photos of training P-39s with that tire mounted also.

Here is a photo that will warm the hearts of anyone who has had to get a COLD airplane started so training can commence...... This was taken at Coffeyville AAF, Kansas. Roughly 250 frozen BT-13s just resting.
