Warbird Information Exchange

Mine is A2C, so that's like garbage scow second class. No really, has anyone thought of getting their IFR, Commercial, CFI, and CFII. With the downturn in the economy I was thinking of getting them all, anone else thought about it?

I've heard the CFII is very similar to IFR in knowledge, so it's smart to get both at the same time. I also understand that 100 hours of simulator time will satisify part of the 250 hour requirement.

100 hours of sim time MIGHT be OK if you're using it for IFR proficiency and in an area where the weather isn't great, but the price differential is often not a lot different between the approved sims and real aircraft - and your real aircraft time is going to be worth a lot more except possibly for the instrument proceedure practice.

Not so sure, your IFR rating will not be enough to get you in the left seat anyway. Most likely you'll be in the right seat where you can get plenty of experience. My thought is get the training fast and as cheap as possible, and then let the real experience be the teacher.

My brother is Chief Pilot for a large charter outfit and gets this sort of question daily. He always tells people that if they want to get all their ratings to do it for their own personal satisfaction, not with the idea of getting a flying job. If a job happens then great, but don't count on it. Age is also a factor...
The best rating you can have to get a job with a airline or charter outfit is aircraft dispatcher. That gets you in the door and lets you meet everybody. Then work on the other ratings and time building.
I was in the same predicament several years ago, I had decided to go back to school to get in the medical field when I was lucky to get the phone call for the job I have today...
I personally think the best thing to be is a nurse, LPN or RN, it pays well and there is always a demand.
