I just received this:

"Dear Friends,

A quick note to let you know that my mother, Mazie, died peacefully
this morning a little before seven. It has been a very long difficult
battle with cancer and I am so relieved that she will be spending
Christmas with Tex, little Mazie, David and Lola and without pain.
There are no words to express how grateful I am for each one of you
who have been such faithful friends. She genuinely loved each and
every one of you.

Please, as you pass on the word to other friends, ask that no flowers
be sent as I will be leaving to go back to South Carolina to be with
my family for the holidays. My mother has requested that in lieu of
flowers a contribution be sent to any of the following, "in memory of
Mazie Sale Hill":

A memorial service will be held after the first of the year and will
be announced later.

I have been asked if this would make future Christmastimes more
difficult. I must say that it has been more clear than ever before
that, because of Christ, this season is a most welcome reminder of the
very hope we have as believers and that my mother is indeed in a
better place and that we can be together again some day. May the
words to "Joy to the World" have a richer meaning to you this
Christmas as well.

Received the same e-mail a while ago. I always told everyone that if you look up the deffiniton of elegant in the dictionary you will find a picture of Mazie. What a wonderful woman. As it is sad her leaving us, I know she will be happy being reunited with Tex.

And Tex will be happy to have his bride by his side once again. She was a wonderful woman, and he loved her very much. (I think she was kinda fond of him as well!)

I knew Tex and like everyone who met him I had respect and affection for him. When I got a chance to talk to Mazie, at San Marcos among other places, I could see that she and Tex were equals and a good partnership. She had a natural grace about her. The best Southern women have a charm about them that is like the sunlight after a cold dark night, and it warms you when you talk to them.

I am sorry that they are gone, but it seems that they had two full lives.

I had the honor of having lunch with Tex and Mazie at Oshkosh years ago...quite accidently. I was in the warbirds tent eating lunch and Tex asked if he and Mazie could join me at the table. I could hardly spit out "of course!" and was thrilled to chat with him and Mazie for 30 or 40 minutes with only one other person at the table. What an honor! They were lovely people and clearly adored each other. Wish I had a camera with me. In general, I'm underwhelmed by celebrity but as a kid growing up reading about the Flying Tigers and other pilots/crews from WWII, I was nearly tongue tied, nervous and in awe to share a meal with them. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mazie's family.

When Tex died I sent the info to the LA Times (and Gunther Rall also). They did not run any info on either man. When Blue Cheer's bass player died a couple of months ago- the obit was promptly run when I emailed them. Just doesn't make any sense.

Seems fair............I don't know who or what a Blue Cheers Bass player is or was, but I do know if you ever met Tex or Mazie you will never foreget them
