Thanks for the reminder on the caption....

"Can it really be 65 years already?"

Ok, I just edited the original post with further information on the Grand Prize. I'd still like to be able to offer the Best Warbird Category photo a prize as well as have an overall grand prize winner. The Grand Prize right now (unless someone want's to top it and bump the current grand prize down to the Best Warbird Photo slot) is I believe one of Kee Bird's original cylinders.

I've gotten a few submissions via the email account (Yay!) and all qualifying entries that I receive that way will end up being hosted here: http://picasaweb.google.com/WIXPhotoContest so I can organize them all for the judges. I'll have to pull off the entries posted in this thread as well later.

Don't forget to read the rules and make sure to include the caption(s) with your photos!

Thanks,

Ryan

For Best WIX photo of the year I suggest either of these as they represent all of us and what we all went through together with the loss of Gary.

The first one is by scfan

This one is by Ztex

Both can be found in this thread.

Well, it isn't much of a contest right now! Let's see some more pictures! If you don't want them revealed right away, send them via email per the address above!

This is my friend Bill Getz. I took this while we were in the Collings Foundations B-24 "Witchcraft". Bill flew a complete combat tour piloting B-24's over Germany, and then volunteered to fly with the Scouting Force in P-51's. He flew another 175 hours as a scout and even shot down an Me-262!

That's me and Bill in front of the Collings Foundation's P-51C. (Bill flew a D)

This is my friend Jack Burke. My dad took this shot in the Collings Foundation B-17 "Nine-O-Nine". Jack flew 28 missions in a ball turret over Germany. He hadn't been in a B-17 for 65 years and two days! My dad saw tears in his eyes.

You can read my write up of the day here http://evanflys.com/collings_foundation

Those are my entries for the "Warbird with Veteran" category.

"Aging Poorly"

It had been just under 38 years since I last saw this plane. I have to declare that 566 looked much better when I was in charge of her. This is the airplane that set a new on-time take-off record of 58 consecutive OTTOs for the 320th Bomb Wing at Mather AFB. The previous record had been 45 OTTOs. The new record combined with Crew Chief of the month 8 times in one year earned me the Master Crew Chief award in 1971, and caused me to be upgraded away from 566 and into job control. This picture was taken the day before Thanksgiving of this year. It took slightly less than two years and an act of God to get me out into the boneyard. I had to pull some strings through various contacts to get a custom special tour to reunite with 566 for some quality time together. If anybody is interested in taking on 566 for a restoration project, I'll volunteer to help.
