P-47's of the 60th Fighter Squadron, 33rd Fighter Group

I am looking for any information on razorback P-47's from this group. I am hoping to make a model of one of these aircraft to honor a fellow WIXer's father. Does anyone know what these aircraft looked like. I can't find much reference so far as to color schemes or any squadron markings.

There is a two volume set of the 33rd FG History called "The Fighting 33rd Nomads in World War II" by James Reed. Lots of photos and information in there about the CBI Jugs of the 33rd. Anyone in particular? I can get the scanner going if need be.

Well it is WIX member sdennison's father. Mr. Dennison flew razorback Thunderbolts. I am sure he may chime in here and know more. But any pics of their razorback P-47's would be awesome.

My father-in-law also worked on the radios in the 33rd from Torch thru CBI.

The 33rd Fighter Group consisted fo three FS's the 59th , 59th , and 60th. The Fighting Nomads were the 33rd with the 58th known as the Gorillas, the 59th known as the Lions and the 60th, the Fighting Crows. The started in P-40's then went from Africa to India in P-47's. Chennault didn't want them due to the fuel requirements, if I understand correctly. They then moved into Burma and toward the beginning of 1945, transitioned into P-38's.

I do not have many photos but here are a couple.

Scott,

Was your dad in North Africa also? If so, he and Rogue's father were in the same general area as my dad, though dad was wrenching on 1st Armored Division tanks and other vehicles. He always said it was a good feeling to see Allied airplanes overhead!

No, he graduated class 43K (December 43) and went straight to India.

Hello Gentlemen,

I came across this site looking for information on the 33rd and the 59th Lions. My father flew the Razorback in CBI and I have a picture of a painting I commissioned long ago of his aircraft that I would like to post for you....don't know how to post pics though...any help? Anyway, he told me that they didn't have the letter group markings because they had just picked up the P-47s and they were so new. He also told me that the Lions were named for a Jack Lyons from Savanah who was killed in a P-39 just before the war. Dad new him at The Citadel and got to the 59th in 43 when they flew P-40s in N. Africa and Italy. I am looking for someone to build him a museum quality model of his Jug name "Sumpin from Sumter" for his 89th birthday and want to make it as exact as possible. Any suggestions? First post. Great site.

What modeling scale would you like the P-47 built in? I have a 1/72nd scale razorback partially assembled and would be interested in finishing it for your father.

Scott, Thank you for your offer. I was hoping 48 or maybe 32. Although he is as sharp as a tac and can tell me exactly where they landed on each leg of their deplyment to Burma and which bases in Burma they operated from his eagle eyes are beginning to fail him so I was hoping for a little bigger scale.
