Mystery PBY & TBM at Jacksonville

Fri Feb 11, 2005 3:43 pm

Back in 1977 when we were living in Mayport, FL when my step-dad was stationed on the USS Saratoga. There was a restaurant in Jacksonville that had a military South Pacific theme. In the back were all kinds of military stuff including a PBY-5A and a TBM. They were fairly complete with PBY minus motors but had a nose turret and blisters. Any idea of the name of the restaurant, the IDs of these planes and their present whereabouts and condition???

Hi,

Wouldn't you just LOVE to "find" something like that in your own backyard ??

Back in the late 80's, I believe, there was a lot on Timaquana (sp?) Blvd in south Jacksonville that had a partially restored Corsair on it. I used to drive by on my visits to Jax and drool over it. Then one time I visited and it wasn't there any more. Never was able to find out where it went. Does anyone here know?

Hi Jack,

Where in Jacksonville we these aircraft located? Just curious since I lived in South Jax for a year after leaving the Navy.

How about St Petersburg (FL)

Down the coast in St. Petersburg there was another Tallichet theme restaurant at the airport. A lot very close by had some 'birds in it that I don't remember specifics about, except for a PB4Y Privateer fuselage. It was recovered from a swamp, where someone was using it as a hunting cabin or some such. There were large glass 'Miami' windows cut into the side. If I recall, Weeks may have aquired it with thoughts of turning it into a B-24 project.

Honestly I don't remember except it was a WWII themed restaurant which according to Rob belonged to David Tallichet (sp?).

That PB4Y2 fuselage sounds like the "Green Monster". I think that Jay Wisler sold it to Tom Riley, who was going to combine it with the wings of a Canadian liberator wreck. However, the wreck was impounded in Canada, and Tom sold the fuselage on. I think it's out west now... anyone know where? I'd be curious to see photos of it too.... those "Miami" windows sound bizarre!

Cheers,
Richard

Heres one for a friend . In Destin , Fl - near Pensacola NAS and EglinAFB there was a waterpark / putt putt golf attraction . One attraction was a yellow B-25 mounted on a big column . It was complete except for a missing fin . Anybody know where she went to ? , thanks.

I would like to see the most recent pics of the PB4Y and what has become of it. I had heard it was used to complete another aircraft, not sure which one or where. I found that fuselage in the Everglades several years ago. Here is a link to some pictures of it in the everglades. Not sure what page the pictures are on, somewhere close to the front of the album.

I believe the Privateer fuselage was incorporated into the B-24D in the Hill AFB museum. From what I understand, that aircraft is a composite of parts from several sources.

Here is the fuselage of the PB4Y-2 at The Clearwater airport. It was an instructional airframe at G.T. Baker in Miami before being taken apart and transported to the Everglades Serial # 59932.

The B-25 at Destin was put up for sale. Not sure where it went after that.
