The word on the HAG board (Geneseo) is that he is retiring for the airshow business. He had a great performance in a Glider called “Wings of Man”. He was also a German Fighter Pilot during WW2 and flew Fw-190s.

Here is a small bit of info one that part of his life.

I will miss seeing him fly at Geneseo.

I think there was an article about him in the Flight Journal Luftwaffe Special Issue. Same kind of person (glider pilot, Fw 190s, etc). Good article. Great issue overall, but lacking in original airframes in the Luftwaffe Survivors area and giving too much space to new builds, Spanish AF, etc.

I ran out and bought that when I heard he was in it. I'd love to hear me speak about his life.

Hi Tim et al--

Oscar Boesch was at Ed Russell's event at Niagara South three weeks ago; at one point he was up on the tower with commentator Charley Fox. I also found after the show that he'd parked his car right behind mine, and I was delighted to have a brief chat with him. His sailplane routine was/is utterly sublime, and with the history narrated behind it, also deeply poignant; it will be much-missed when he retires. What I heard at Friendly Foes was slightly different, though, suggesting that Oscar might not retire quite yet: Mrs Boesch had been unwell, making it unworkable for Oscar to tour this year, but there had been an improvement and at least at the time of Friendly Foes, it was possible that Oscar might return to the cockpit of the Schleicher for a few more shows next year.

Whatever decision Oscar takes, I'm pleased to have seen that beautiful routine many times over the past 30 years and wish the Boesches the very best in future.

S.
