Is anyone else having internet and WIX troulble? I am not good with computers, don't really believe in anything that does not hold 120W or 25W-60, and does not make real noise.

My computer got slow, and then worse. I bought an anti spyare, anti virsus disk, Webroot, which seems to have made it worse and is now the new adware. Then I ran cc cleaner which claimed to have removed trojans from two sites, but no help.

It is now almost unusable, on any site. I am on another computer at the FBO and it seems to work fine.

We don't really have a coputere repair store here. Should I give up or try to find some high school kid to fix it?
Thanks

Man, I love Merlins and this makes it even more so.

Bill, sounds like the Gremlin from the Kremlin has found your computer! Mine slows down every once and awhile but nothing like you are experiencing. Lately I have found when I click onto a thread here on the WIX nothing happens for close to a minute. Not sure if thats my computer or something else is going on.

Bill,

Be sure and ditch Webroot. It's not easy to get out, may have to go to
the registry which means get someone experienced.

Definitely get rid of Webroot. CCleaner is good for getting rid of spyware / malware, but not so good for viruses. I use AVG Antivirus which is free, and it seems to do a great job for virus protection.

One other thing to try would be to disable Webroot from the startup menu. It's not a total fix, but might help until you can get help with removing it. click on the start button and when the prompt box pops up type in MSCONFIG. Click on the tab labeled start up. Then look through that list and uncheck any boxes that are related to Webroot. Then re-boot your PC. It should prevent most of the Webroot files from opening when your computer starts back up.

i'm not a computer wiz, but i've used combofix with great success to clean up my computer. it's a program capable of far more than i know how to do, but it will function automatically to a limited degree as well.

i dont have a link handy but if you google combofix it should be readily found.

Get Malwarebytes from malwarebytes.org. It's very good at findinga removing nasties.

Also vist www.bleepingcomputer.com if you think that you may have serious nasties. They can help you trough the process.

I agree, Linux kicks major butt! On my Ubuntu system, I don't have a firewall or any virus protection whatsoever. It's really weird surfing the net, downloading stuff with reckless abandon, and opening all e-mail attachments knowing I'm completely exposed, but don't have to worry about anything. I wouldn't dare dream of doing that on a Windows OS.

We just got a nasty last night. Our Kaspersky software seems to have killed it. I recommend it.
