hello all

the great B-26K thread put England AFB in my head and got me curious about it, and I ended up on Wikipedia doing some reading, where I found this pic of an F-86 (erroneously labelled an F-84):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:F-84- ... andafb.jpg

The markings are outstanding, anybody have any idea what colors they would be?

cheers

greg v.

edit: the Sabre is credited to the 366th Fighter-Bomber Wing

I would say red and white. Check out the (not erroneously labled) F-84 at the Combat Air Museum. http://www.combatairmuseum.org/aircraft ... icf84.html

Those mid to late fifties F-86F Sabres based in Europe had some of the most colorful markings ever seen on Sabres. The late Wyatt Fuller's Sabre that was lost in 2006 was finished in some of the beautiful markings of that era.

thanks for all the info guys.

I wonder if this is two photos composited into one? Notice how wide the "C" on FORCE is...

cheers

Interesting about the larger "C." I didn't notice it the first time I looked at it. Maybe you are right or maybe when they added the large U.S. AIR FORCE markings they had a larger stencil for the C for some reason....

:o
