A place where restoration project-type threads can go to avoid falling off the main page in the WIX hangar. Feel free to start threads on Restoration projects and/or warbird maintenance here. Named in memoriam for Gary Austin, a good friend of the site and known as RetroAviation here. He will be sorely missed.

Is he travelling away from Auckland at all?
Otherwise in Auckland there is the Museum of Transport and Technology who have a varied aircraft collection.
And although not having a huge number of aircraft (two!) there is the Auckland War Memorial Museum. They have a MK XVI Spitfire and a Zero. (The Zero was acquired by the RNZAF and shipped home after the surrender)

Yes, MOTAT has a great aviation collection, both inside and out! Make sure that he goes there! Call ahead and see if the hanger in the back is still open as that's where the volunteers restore more aircraft....... I'll be doing a post about a visit that I did there a few years ago........
Also, about 25 miles or so south of Auckland is Ardmore Airfield and there are several really good restoration hangers there as well as a branch of the CAF. Call ahead to arrange a visit there.......
If he makes up north of Auckland (about 25 miles), have him visit Dairy Flat Airfield as there are a few smaller restoration hangers there as well.......
