This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

To all the flyers from Top Gun? Happened to watch it again the other night. Obvious demise for the F-14's but what about all the other aircraft used to make this movie?

One of the F-14 that was used as "Maverick's" is preserved on one of the aircraft carrier museums. "Icemans's" Tomcats was lost in a crash.

I could be wrong but I think one of the F-14s is at the March AFB museum in Riverside Ca.

I've never quite understood why everybody hates that movie so. It has some (actually quite a lot, for a commercial movie) of the very best air to air photography ever done up to that time. Not a lot of military themed stuff since to match it either. I never paid much attention to the plot, but I've watched the movie in whole or in part many times and some of the aerial scenes still have me on the edge of my seat going "Wow", "Wow" and "My God that's wonderful!"

I've always wondered too, maybe because TC was in it?

It was a decent enough flick, but it was no "Final Countdown".

That's hands-down the single best Tomcat movie out there.

Oh yeah, now you're talking! Great, great movie. Lots of neat shots of other a/c besides the Tomcats as well. The 2-disc DVD set has some neat Tomcat stuff on the bonus disc that is work checking out.

I've never fully understood the bashing of TC. I'm sure if I watched more TV I would better understand

However, from what I have gathered here on WIX, I believe he owns the former Montana Miss P-51, flys it himself and I think he was willing to put the money up to get the former CAF P-82 flying. I would think that would put him in a much better light here on WIX. OK...I will stop spending so much time here and start watching more Oprah shows

Aside from the F-14's, where is everything else?

According to one of the students I deal with, "Top Gun" is the "Brokeback Mountain" of the Aviation world!... lol...
